Even ramadan, the WL and entertainment have to eat.... rental and makan is a need for business you know.

Weekend somemore, best time for business. However,They want to avoid some so call " religious heros", who has nothing better to do, who goes around whacking disco or pubs, and when not in ramadan, they spend and enjoy themselves then. Higher end and better places have their own guards to sort out with them to avoid trouble.

Things are not so bad in Batam, as the ones I seen in Jakarta.

One true fact is the time are shorter, does not mean that they are closed. Some bo chup, continue, but for shorter hours.

Disco are definately shorter hours and close earlier, massage are as per normal. Even they front door says "close", there are people who can take you thru back door. Just open your eyes, of cos, be more discreet.

As for the middle of the month closing for a day.. It depends on the joint.

As advised, stay low for a while.

Actually I've got that piece of news few days before you. I called their reception from Europe and I've got different answers every time. Difficult to find people who speaks English, and they are not sure about what to say. That's why I ask here the experts...

Yes, but be more discreet. All entertainment hours are shorter too. Makan is less open during the day. Nasi Padang resturants are closed. Chinese stalls open. Penguin/Jodoh area. Malls have food resturants, not an issue.

Gals? Read. for long time over nite can be 400K onwards. Massage is 40K onwards per hour depend on location. Specials range from 80K for HJ to 100K, dont give too much. They will ask for more. FJ is 150K onwards to 300K, if you find the gal is nice. Always bargain.

remember to take care of your belongings. This is the time where a lot of thief and pickpockets also. And dont forget the rubber.

My understanding is that Disco management may announce before that they will be closed, to keep those "religious heroes" calm, but they might open anyway. Batam is often unpredictable.
I would really appreciate if any kind soul with insiders in Pacific and Newton would drop me a line with latest news thank you!

Bigger disco places have their men guarding.. Paid to "guard". Not to worry so much. Usually, they will stop these people from their nonsense. You think these religious heros dont take money from these disco? Just pay them in advance and ask them not to come....

But as a mark of respect, they close earlier, about 12am or so.. Not too sure on the timing, but as usual, if you want fun, go earlier, n get out earlier.

I have been in Batam on 26 July onwards in 2012, that is second week of Ramadan more or less.
Pacific and Newton were always open, but Pacific closed around 3am and Newton around 6am, that is earlier than usual (but not so early as 12am as you say).

Now, the problem (and my question) is: will they be fully closed on 25-26-27 July?? Someone says yes, someone says no. This is the latest news I wish.
I am already depressed to know that NoName will be closed on that weekend. I am going to miss the highlight of my stay in Batam: Saturday night in NoName.
