Morocco to stage the 2015 African Nations Cup

Morocco will stage the 2015 African Nations Cup, the Confederation of African Football announced.

South Africa were also awarded the hosting rights for the 2017 edition.

"We would hv liked 2 host the 2015 edition," said a disappointed South African Football Association CEO Lesley Sedibe. "But a decision has been taken & we hv no problem with tat. "We made a presentation tat we hv the infrastructure ready as well as all the volunteers tat worked during the Fifa World Cup 2 call on a short notice, but like we say, we welcome the decision as there was no losers."

The Moroccan delegation celebrated wildly aft the announcement was made, with some even blowing vuvuzelas 2 celebrate.

No extra CONCACAF World Cup place

There could be up to 6 South American countries competing @ the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, aft FIFA confirmed that no extra places will be given 2 the CONCACAF region.

CONCACAF had been lobbying FIFA with a view 2 taking 1 of the South American spots, as Brazil qualify 4 the tournament automatically as hosts.

But world football's governing body has opted 2 continue with the same number of teams fr each region - with Europe taking 13 spots, South America 4, Asia 4, Africa 5 and CONCACAF 3.

The remaining 2 positions will be decided by an inter-continental play-off, though the format has been slightly altered.

In previous qualification, the play-offs had been set in stone; for the 2006 World Cup they were Oceania v South America & Asia v CONCACAF, while in 2010 they were Asia v Oceania & CONCACAF v South America.

Tis time, however, a draw will be made 2 see which regions will be paired 2gether 4 a chance 2 play in the 19th finals in Brazil.

At the 2010 World Cup, 2 of CONCACAF's participants - USA & Mexico - made the 2nd round, while Honduras finished bottom of their group. In contrast, South America could boast 4 quarter-finalists, though only Uruguay made it thru 2 the semis.

Meanwhile, FIFA also announced tat the 2015 women's World Cup has been awarded 2 Canada, who were unopposed aft Zimbabwe withdrew fr the contest because of a lack of infrastructure.

Canada will also host the women's Under-20 World Cup in 2014 as a test event, while Uzbekistan will host the women's Under-20 World Cup in 2012 & Costa Rica will host the women's Under-17 World Cup in 2014

FIFA also revealed tat the men's Under-20 World Cup will be played in Turkey in 2013 & New Zealand in 2015, while the men's Under-17 World Cup will be staged in the United Arab Emirates in 2013 & Chile in 2015.

Blazer blasts World Cup decision

FIFA's decision 2 allow South America a possible 6 slots @ the 2014 World Cup has been blasted as "completely ludicrous'' by Chuck Blazer, the FIFA executive committee member fr the USA & secretary general of CONCACAF.

FIFA will retain the same number of World Cup places 4 each confederation for the 2014 tournament but Brazil will take the hosts' spot given to South Africa for 2010.

South America has just 10 countries in its confederation CONMEBOL and already had four definite places without the hosts' spot, and the chance of another via a play-off.

Blazer also questioned why Africa should have five spots compared to CONCACAF's 3.5 given their relatively poor showing in the World Cup.

Blazer said: "It is completely ludicrous. I'm a great supporter of South American football but for them to have a possible six countries out of 10 is absurd. People say the hosts have always qualified as an extra but that is not true. The last two times we hosted the World Cup, in Mexico in 1986 and USA in 1994, we didn't get an extra spot - we only had two. Why should South America get an extra one? Everyone is protecting their own interests rather than doing what's right.''

CONCACAF had argued that with 40 member nations, one fifth of FIFA's total, they should have four automatic slots rather three with one possible via a play-off.

Blazer also pointed out that the success of Mexico and the USA in qualifying from the group stage of the 2010 finals contrasted with Africa, where Ghana was the only country from that continent to advance.

He added: "We had a 67% success rate, Africa had a 16% success. If Africa can go from two places to five in the last 14 years, why can we not go from two to four. This decision also means we will have to completely re-do our whole qualifying system.''
