The group would be decided on head to head record. Napoli would win the group, with Salzburg going through in second ahead of Liverpool on mini-league goal difference.

Liverpool was rattled after Napoli scored. Loss of Fabinho was massive.

Hope his injury not serious. Anyway Fabinho suspended for Brighton game after collecting 6 yellow cards.

What did we learn from this game?


- Carlos del Cerro Grande is one of the worst referees to oversee a Champions League tie
- Joe Gomez is not a right-back
- We need two new young full-backs who can do a similar job to Arnold and Robertson in the summer but at least one over this winter transfer window (Max Aarons/Jamal Lewis would be perfect)
- James Milner should no longer be starting games in midfield
- Mohamed Salah needs to get his mojo back and quick

Hope Fabinho and the Ox are ok.

Lallana is quite a good defensive midfielder. His first touch is solid. Fitness and stamina ok too. Watch him perform in this role this weekend. At least I think Klopp will replace Fabino with him

Always hurts losing one of your best players...but if I had to pick a spot to lose someone...I would rather it be midfield than up front or in defence...I almost wept when Virgil went down on the floor on Wednesday night

Looks like a return to 4-2-3-1 with Salah as a centre forward.

I’m convinced this will happen for a number of reasons. I have a theory that one of the reasons we are conceding more goals this season is because our two other midfielders are pushing further up the field than last season mainly due to Fab’s brilliance as a lone 6.

That can create problems however when we we lose the ball upfield and face a counter attack. How many times have we seen Fab facing two or three attackers by himself?

I would like to see a double Hendo/Gini pivot for the big games and maybe a Keita/Milner pivot for the alternative games. This way we can play Salah at 9 and Bobby, Ox or Shaq and Mane as the three.

Actually I feel we are conceding goals because we are trying to turn last season's draws into victories. This idea is working well as we have only drew 1 match. Do we have the confidence we will outscore the opponents? If yes, continue playing like we do even if we concede 1 goal per match
