As I have mentioned in post#5439:
"I have confirmed flight tickets to Manila, and room reservations for 3 different hotels (Galaxy, Pacific Breeze, and Wild Orchid) on 23/Feb and leaving AC very early on 2/Mar/2014."

I have stayed twice in Wild Orchid and really like the room next to the swimming pool. But the price per night at 4,655 (cash) peso is a bit on the high side.

Galaxy has e-mailed back my confirmation for pool side Galaxy Suite room at 3,080 (cash) per night and the room is available for the full 7 days of my stay there.

Pacific Breeze came back with e-mail to say the room I wanted, poolside jacuzzi at 3,700 per night, is available from 23/Feb to 28/Feb...and room not available on 1/Mar as they have been fully booked. They told me they will put me on priority standby and also offered to get a room at another hotel on my last day in AC.


Any bros here have stayed at Galaxy or Pacific Breeze and can help me to decide on which hotel to take?

Honestly, I am quite interested in trying out the Galaxy hotel even though it's Korean owned and car cannot go through Fields/Walking street after 4.00pm and so will have to walk to hotel since I will be arriving AC at around 5.00pm....

So, all advices and info will be highly appreciated.

PB would be my choice if I were you. Galaxy is too close to the action and can be noisy as the rooms are not soundproofed, unless you are lucky enough to have the rooms at the rear. But there's only 4 units at the back of there.

Wild Orchid Hotel and Wild Orchid Resort are 2 different buildings that have no relation to each other. Well, WO hotel used to belong to WO Resort but has been sold and is now operating as an independant. The WO hotel is rundown and has problems with the water pressure system so not having water to shower is a common complaint.

WO Resort is the one on Santos street and is worth it to stay there if you have the money. Excellent staff and service and facilities are up to the mark.

WO hotel is the one on the junction of Raymond street/Real street.

I hear that Singapore has its Muthu Curry story which happened many years ago. In AC we have a similar case just discovered a couple of days ago.

A chopped up body of a female was found in the freezer of a food establishment a few streets from Fields avenue. The deceased is believed to be a missing bar worker but investigators have a problem to identify her as the remaining body has several parts missing. Food samples from the restaurant has been seized and sent for forensics.

PB is one of the most popular hotels favoured by visitors to AC. It used to have a sister hotel Central Park across the road but that has been demolished and is in the process of rebuilding. You have to make reservations early as PB is usually sold out of rooms. Well trained and friendly staff, excellent location, competent security, comes with a swimming pool and well maintained rooms. It is easy to see why it is a perennial favourite among repeat visitors to AC.

On the down side is you need to navigate the group of beggar kids that always hang around its entrance. Can be quite irritating encountering them several times a day.

I find the hotel Penthouse is way better than Wild Orchid Resort which I had stay 3 times.. I find the room in Penthouse is more modern with good key and better safety box.. the problem I have with WOR is the conventional big key (eventhough you can drop it off the reception), the safetybox is ancient, the room is roomy but old fashion, and the check out is manual... Penthouse is a bit more expensive than WOR...

I hear one of the partners of Penthouse hotel is a Singaporean, is that you?
Pardon my ignorance but I have not been to the Penthouse so I can't comment on that place.

No Mayor.. I am not. I had notice Penthouse while I was staying in the WOR. My supplier always book me in WOR and I request that to be change to Penthouse at my own pockets.

Thank you very much for the expanded info on PB....and yes, they are booked solid during weekends. But so is WOR...
I think I will probably try out PB just to make a comparison to WOR. However, there still is the unavailability of room for 1-2 nights during my stay there.
WOR & GH has the pool side room I wanted for my entire 7 days stay in AC.

It's still early to my departure date and I will decide on the hotel one week before that date.

As for street urchin beggars...hehehe..one "mean" look from me and a wave of my hand seems suffice to keep them at bay and away from me.
Maybe it's because (as my GF tells me) I look like or can pass off as a local Philippino

There is a no-legged 40ish man sitting on a pushcart stationed in front of the Penthouse hotel everyday from morning to late evening looking or alms. But he has never asked me for alms and I didn't give any either.

Yes, from Penthouse hotel site, I see that the rooms are far superior to WOR. However, I don't see any rooms being located next to their rooftop swimming pool. So that, plus the higher price, will probably not be appealing to me for now.

Yes, the room key at WOR for the jacuzzi room on the first floor are old fashion large key chain, but those next to pool side are more modern security card type. I don't know what the keys are like for the rest of the other rooms coz I never stayed in any of them yet.
Maybe we will bump into each other one of those days when we are both in AC at the same time

Was it the night before? Then probably those girls you saw were not the resident TAO girls. We are having a Miss Valentine 2014 contest amongst the bars and selection rounds are held in the participating bars by rotation. When a bar is hosting the selection, supporters / colleagues from the contestants own bar often turns up to provide encouragement and support.... and some of these girls can be so pom pui and fugly
