Dunno whether any special event happening....... but lately seemed to have increase in Gong An presence in Shenzhen. In some places they also have armoured police vehicles stationed there.

Be prepared for long waiting time at the border crossing as usually saturdays and sundays are supercrowded with people travelling on both sides.
