Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Espanyol winger Albert Riera has been told by his club he has 72 hours to finalise his move to Liverpool.

The Spaniard failed to impress in the Premiership first time around.

The club's official website appeared to confirm Rafael Benitez's side were in pole position to sign the Spaniard after revealing talks between Espanyol and Liverpool were 'going well'.

Reports on Tuesday claimed Liverpool had reached a deal with the Barcelona-based side to sign Riera in an £8million deal, but Espanyol sporting director Paco Herrera insisted there were still some issues to be cleared up before a move could be completed.

'This is a sensitive time, and we need to make sure we reach a solution one way or another,' he said.

'Everything is going well and a deal can be reached. The differences we have are ones we can solve and in the next two or three days there has to be a solution because there is no more time.'

On Monday, club president Daniel Sanchez Llibre revealed two unnamed English clubs had bid for the player, with one side offering more money than the other.

The club offering the higher bid is believed to be Everton, but Herrera confirmed on Monday that Riera was more interested in joining the side offering the lower bid.

Benitez revealed Liverpool were in negotiations to buy Riera but that no agreement on fee and contract has yet been reached.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Rafa Benitez has revealed there is a new buzz around Melwood following the return of our Olympic trio – but neither Javier Mascherano or Lucas will feature against Standard Liege.
The Champions League qualifier comes too soon for the pair following their Beijing exploits, though both are fighting for a place in the starting XI versus Aston Villa on Sunday.

Despite being out of Wednesday's game, Benitez claims the duo – as well as Dutch forward Ryan Babel – have spiced things up in training.

He said: "You can see the impact in training. They have a really good mentality and they are really happy – especially Mascherano and Lucas because of their medals. I think it will be positive for the team.

"If everything is okay, maybe they could play this weekend. They will be around and we will decide, but they cannot play in the Champions League.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Ian Rush has hailed Liverpool's ability to grind out results but is now calling for them to start winning in style.
The Reds legend is delighted Rafael Benitez's side have taken maximum points from their opening two league matches and now wants them to step it up a gear in terms of performance levels on the pitch.

"You can't ask for any more from a team than to take six points from their first two games of the season and that is exactly what Liverpool have done," said Rush.

PRESS RELEASE
Secretary of State backs fan ownership
Ex-LFC players to speak out in favour of ownership change

Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, Andy Burnham, will endorse the prospect of fans taking ownership of their clubs at a meeting to the launch of the next phase of ShareLiverpoolFC’s bid to takeover Liverpool FC.

Lifelong Everton fan and MP for Leigh, Mr Burnham will put aside his personal allegiance to back a principle that he championed in his former role as Chairman of Supporters Direct.

Also speaking will be ex-Liverpool FC players, John Barnes, Phil Thompson and ShareLiverpoolFC board member, John Aldridge, alongside the organisation’s founder member, Rogan Taylor.

Paul Rice, who Chairs the Spirit of Shankly, and Nicky Allt (founder member of SOS) will also speak in favour of a change of regime at the club, in a show of solidarity amongst Liverpool FC supporters’ groups.

The meeting will take place before the second leg of Liverpool’s Champions League qualifier on Wednesday 27 August, at the Liverpool Lighthouse in Anfield, from 5.30 - 7.00pm, with a full house, 400-strong attendance.

Click here for a detailed schedule.

The meeting will hear how the ShareLiverpoolFC concept has become an FSA-approved cooperative society, with a constitution that will put fans in control through a democratic one-member, one-vote mechanism. The new phase of operation will see the organisation push on towards increasing its membership to provide the finance to buy the club from the existing owners.

Numbers at the event will be strictly limited by the size of the venue (about 400 people), and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis (no ticket required). Supporters will have the opportunity to ask questions on how the concept will work in a Q&A session with the ShareLiverpoolFC board.

Event Time and Place

Date: Wednesday, 27 August 2008 Venue: Liverpool Lighthouse
Time: 17.30-19.00 Old Gaumont Palace Cinema,
web: Liverpool Lighthouse, About Us Oakfield Road, Anfield, Liverpool, L4 0UE.

Bro, our style is to break someone's legs out there man. If you only break 1 leg, then the other leg will need to walk alone. Remember, our style is You'll Never Walk Alone. That applies for legs as well.

Just kidding, glad the transfer window is ending soon. All the Barry saga will end soon. Whoever else we can buy, let's just try to have a settled side as soon as possible.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

We were so lucky. Didn't play well again. A lot of misplaced passes. I think our side is still adapting to the switch to 4-4-2. Keane is trying too hard to impress. He didn't play his normal game.

I hope this victory gives us the money to buy some more players before the window closes. We need some real wingers. We look so dangerous when crosses are whipped in from the byline. Kuyt scored from one such pass from Babel. Earlier on, Kuyt received a free kick at the byeline and crossed in for Keane, who unfortunately missed his timing. Hope to see greater width in our play.

The commentator is so irritating. Made a lot of wrong comments only to correct himself again. When Kuyt scored and Torres followed the ball into the net, he shouted 'Torres!'... It's so obvious Torres didn't score. First time hear commentator shout wrong name for goal scorer. Ended the commentary with this question. My words... Was that a battle or was that a battle?

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

yes,phew,very close.
we are playing on borrow time.
another lousy performance, just cun break through.
look like we are going to have a quite serious problem - scoring goal, this season.

it will be disastrous,if we are out,not to say the cash that will be lose but also will be the laughing stock here.

but we managed to pull through again, thanks to Kuyt.
he scored in the 118 minutes of extra time.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Worth a thought to solve our right wing problems? £9million seems reasonably cheap, solves the English content issue.

Wright-Phillips uninterested in City or Everton

Shaun Wright Phillips will not be returning to Manchester City, according to his agent. The 26-year-old has been linked with a £9million return to Eastlands after reports suggested that he would barely figure in Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari's plans this season.

Everton have also been linked with the England international but agent Wayne Lindsay says Wright Phillips has no desire to join either club, 'He (Wright Phillips) doesn't want to join either of them and we are now discussing the next move to see what we do,' Lindsay told Sky.

'Because of all the problems there (City) and the uncertainty surrounding the place he is unsure. 'He is speaking with the manager (Scolari) at the moment but he is settled in London. He would like to stay and that's the bottom line but it is up to the manager.
