I agree. I thought it was a riot and the fans were rowdy. Seeing so many people trying to climb over the fence. I was actually disappointed that the live telecast was cancelled due to crowd disturbance. Last time I was very young and live telecast of the FA cup was a BIG BIG thing back then. Only the semi-finals and finals were shown live, and free of charge.

Only knew the real situation the next day. What a disaster.

actually, if u looked more closely, u would have seen a fan who climbed over the fence. he was really panicky when he ran to steve mcmahon to tell him the severity of the problem. that was when mcmahon ran to kenny dalglish to pass the cryptic message. right after, the teams were withdrawn in the hope that the mad rush to catch the game would stop. alas, it was all too late.

witnessing hillsborough (the other being the man who singlehandedly stopped a column of tanks from entering the tiananmen crackdown) shaped my whole life and principles.

Eh, you switched off the TV? I remember watching the semi-final too, Beardsley hit the bar didn't he, and then things went crazy from there. I don't recall seeing anything like that on soccer TV since.

Figures pal. I am like Xgenre, much younger than (of course) and to me, footie was just people kicking balls around. I had no idea what kind of manager Kenny was, what style we played, just admired the attackers like Barnes and Beardsley and supported the team. I think the Internet and creation of online communities of fans have changed that a lot.

we winning the bpl is not far off n the scums noe it n they r edgy,win or lose we stand by our team.i jus hope we jus nick it frm them this season.we did not lose the bpl by drawing with arsenal,we lost it when we drew with fulham,hull,west ham at anfield.thats six pts dropped.

me old guard??? u should see my uncles. think i should have the ambulances on standby next season when liverpool plays manure... damn, they r hardcore. me still nothing compared to them. but not unlike them, we may be cursing when souness took over (who wouldnt be when he bought mark walters???), we definitely cursed houllier for his single dimension play involving a young michael owen whose ball trapping skills is worse than mine!!! rafa took over and we have stopped cursing. but at no time did we give up on supporting liverpool.

guess i was much luckier than u. from young, i have had experts drilled into me the importance of the midfield enforcers, like steve mcmahon, keith gillespie, souness, etc... i guess my friends were all wondering why liverpool didnt play all the flair players instead of these "boring" ones.

king kenny... i was just so excited when he was still player/manager... and it was at a time when they only allowed 2 substitutes and he named himself one of them. then he comes on and seemed to move in slow-motion.

this thread is the closest to what i would call a god-send. many of my friends r evertonians and forest fans... so they either disagree with everything i say about liverpool or they r no longer interested in football.

No, they stopped the match. SBC stopped the telecast and changed to other progams. It was too gory to be shown live to the rest of the world. We are literally watching people die right in front of our eyes leh.

I think the semi-final you mentioned was the replay. If I recalled, we beat nottingham forest and went on to lose the final against everton right?

if my memory serves me well, liverpool went on to win the FA Cup, with ian rush coming off the bench to score the winner in extra time. everton gave a good fight, equalising twice thru stuart mccall, the first in injury time.

Can't be la, I remember the replay vaguely - we won 1-0 right and then beat Evershit 3-2 in extra-time (Aldo 1, Rushie 2)?

SBC did show part of the tragedy at least - people running onto the pitch, lying down. I think the telecast was on for at least 20 mins or so.

I was mad about football since I was a boy boy and Liverpool was the one and only club for me... (I do have my fave in other leagues like AC Milan, when Sire A highlights were shown on Ch5 on Sat noons)

I didnt get to see Keegan in a Liverpool shirt but I do remember Dalgish in one!

dont worry. the support for that team is purely commercial. they do not and will never possess the local manchester support. overseas support is always unreliable, cos it is very dependent on continued success. thus, all it needs is for them to screw up a season or two and u will see the downfall. no need for u to do anything.
