2013 Africa Cup of Nations

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Africa_Cup_of_Nations

The 2013 ACN will be the 29th Africa Cup of Nations, the football championship of Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). It was scheduled 2 be hosted by Libya, however a decision by CAF 2 move the competition 2 South Africa, means Libya will not host. Libya won the right 2 host the tournament aft defeating a Nigerian bid along with 3 other bid winning nations, Angola, Gabon & Equatorial Guinea. Bids fr Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe & Senegal were rejected & did not reach the shortlist. 4 the 1st time in CAF history, the hosts of 3 successive tournaments were chosen @ the same time; Angola was chosen 2 host in 2010, Gabon/Equatorial Guinea were chosen as hosts 4 the 2012 Cup & Libya 4 the 2013 edition.

The winners of the tournament will qualify 4 the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil as the representative fr CAF.

The 2011 Libyan uprising against the government of Muammar Gaddafi meant tat the staging of the 2013 tournament in Libya would not be feasible. In June 2011, an anonymous source @ CAF stated tat "CAF hv decided 2 move the tournament 2 another country becos of the current instability in Libya" A decision was made 2 move the tournament 2 South Africa, & Libya was instead given the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations which South Africa was initially due 2 host. Egypt had also expressed interest in hosting the event.

Egypt crash out of AFCON qualifiers
June 30, 2012

7 time Africa Cup of Nations champions Egypt hv been eliminated fr qualification 4 the 2013 edition, following a 4-3 aggregate defeat 2 Central African Republic.

Egypt, who r the continent's most successful side, could only manage a 1-1 draw in Bangui, against a team placed 45 places lower in the FIFA World Rankings. The result follows a 3-2 defeat in the home leg earlier in June.

The match had been rearranged due 2 the country's political problems, but defeat 2 their less illustrious opponents will now increase pressure on manager Bob Bradley, despite 2 wins fr their opening World Cup qualifiers.

Central African Republic took an early lead thru Kazakhstan based striker Foxi Kethevoama, meaning tat even aft Emed Moteab managed 2 equalise 4 Egypt 20 mins fr time, Egypt required 2 further goals 2 progress.

Central African Republic will now continue into the 2nd-round of qualifiers, where the 16 1st-round winners will meet the 16 sides who featured @ tis year's event in 2-legged play-offs 2 reach next year's event in South Africa.
