What’s Happening To Our Beloved Singapore?
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Source: TR EMERITUS What’s happening to our beloved Singapore? August 16th, 2014 | Author: Contributions Beloved Singapore We are supposed to have reached the Swiss standard of living. But we seemed to have gone from First World to Third World within the last 10 years! We had a riot in Little India on a scale not seen in decades. Police car were overturned and officers were captured on film fleeing the scene. During the COI, the Commissioner even proudly claimed that a commander does not enter the heat of battle himself. Come national day, flurry of medals awarded. This came shortly after the first ever strike in decades, by PRC bus drivers. We overspent on YOG by $300 million, during which “dog food” was served to volunteers who ended up with food poisoning. We spend $400K renaming Marina Bay to Marina Bay. We have a Parliament that passes law apparently without even realising there is no quorum. And the Speaker and Deputy Speaker who are both paid millions, are not held accountable. For several years now, the Govt appeared to have dipped into the reserves because GIC’s performance is poor. And no one was held accountable for it. We were once told GIC and Temasek managed our CPF, then told GIC does not manage CPF and are recently told GIC does manage CPF funds but Temasek does not. No one, other than the Netizens, seem to care about such contradictory statements, including the President who is supposed to oversee the reserves. The govt machinery came up with the population white paper and were completely clueless at the uproar which continues to this day. The fact that they had no idea what was coming shows how disconnected and clueless they are. It also reveals the complete absence of any credible feedback mechanism that tells them how people really feel. Filipino managers put up job ads openly discriminating against Singaporeans. A Singaporean woman finds herself working in a department at a bank where the rest of her colleagues are Indian nationals and the head is also an Indian national. And her Indian national boss is putting pressure on her. Our PMETs are becoming taxi drivers in the prime of their lives. Our youngsters start to fear retrenchment when they are past 30. Our students cannot get into university because of foreign student quota. Our foreigners get free scholarship whilst Singaporean students take study loans. 30 year mortgage is considered affordable and normal. Our HDB flats now come with numerous defects after home buyers have signed a hefty mortgage. Our PRs buy flats and rent them out for a profit, then cash out and leave when they sight greener pastures. Our MRT breaks down so frequently nowadays that it barely merits mention in the papers. In 1998, the PM GCT in a National Day speech sets out a goal of reaching the World Cup in 2010. Today, our soccer ranks 165th in the world, sliding from 81st in 1998 to 140th in 2010. Two-thirds of the medals won in the recent Commonwealth games were by instant PRC new citizens. For no apparent rhyme and reason, the Causeway has a “glitch” that locks down the entire complex, trapping thousands of commuters and vehicles for an hour. And nobody at the leadership level gives a shit. Not once, not twice but thrice in recent years was the security at the Causeway breached. No one was held accountable. And now we are told that Singaporeans are not gracious enough to return their trays at Hawker Centres, whilst at the same time China nationals shit on our MRT and even dare to yell back. What is happening to our beloved Singapore? Please tell me. JG p.s. Please feel free to add what else you see happening to Singapore in the last decade under the reign of you know who. End Of Article Reader's Comment: Fat MaMa: August 16, 2014 at 11:11 am (Quote) Got the temerity to ask? If it is our beloved Singapore, means we have not done our job ! We leave everything to them and expect great things to happen for us? Dream on! They came for power and money and when we made our choice to be apathetic they help themselves, not us. Now, do we want to truly wake up or just want to continue our nightmare shifting blame and unrealistic hopes on others? It is all about us and us only! Comments from 1,000 Likes for a By-Election in Hougang: Economist 101: August 16, 2014 at 11:31 am (Quote) The PAP is 100% clueless about how to bring Singapore forward. At the Tanjong Pagar National Day dinner, they are still singing the old and erroneous songs of blind pursuit of GDP growth. There are so many glaring major policy errors on their part, but they are either blind, foolish, or incapable of admitting their policy mistakes, and this will result in devastating consequences for Singapore. There is no doubt in my mind now that we have to vote them out in 2015/16. If they are voted in again in 2015/16, they will perpetuate their erroneous policies, and our future generations will suffer unspeakable social, economic and political consequences. We may not have a nation to talk about! Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
